The best ‘initiative’ is for voters to say no to any new taxes until the city comes ‘clean’ with public records and stop squandering pubic funds……..

  2. Ed McKnight says:

7-5-132. Procedure to exercise right of initiative or referendum. (1) The electors may initiate and amend ordinances and require submission of existing ordinances to a vote of the people by petition. If an approved petition containing sufficient signatures is filed prior to the ordinance’s effective date or within 60 days after the passage of the ordinance, whichever is later, a petition requesting a referendum on the ordinance delays the ordinance’s effective date until the ordinance is ratified by the electors. A petition requesting a referendum on an emergency ordinance filed within 60 days of the effective date of the ordinance suspends the ordinance until ratified by the electors.
    (3) A petition or resolution for initiative or referendum must:
    (d) contain the signatures of 15% of the registered electors of the local government; and

Great Falls claims 26,030 voters. 15% = 3,904. So you can see that 100 people collecting 40 signatures or 50 people collecting 80 signatures would be enough to stop an ordinance within 60 days or have one put on the ballot.

Those numbers seem very reasonable and achievable but I’m not sure of what to stop or put on the ballot. Since ECP is a separate non-profit corp, and they are supposed to be self sufficient by ordinance, do we need an ordinance mandating that the commission follow ordinances?

  4. Walter Greenspan says:

Anonymous, voters can not vote down an increase in any of the municipal property taxes if the only ones allowed to vote on such an increase in any of the municipal property taxes are the Mayor and the City Commissioners.

  5. anonymous says:

Thanks ‘Walter’……..the mayor and commissioners will certainly be ‘on the hot seat’ and levies will face severe scrutiny…….the ‘game is up’ for the ‘Old Guard’…

  6. Anonymous says:

“The Game” is not up. It is being played well by liberal extremists.

Check into your local Neighborhood Council and keep talking until the people in your neighborhood get it.

    GeeGuy,
Is there a way to FREEZE City tax dollars by protesting payments or some other way?
