The Rough Draft of the First Draft of History

Couldn’t have said it better.

Firefly has a good post up about the Tribune’s comments yesterday about the “anonymous ‘blogosphere.’”  Note that the comments were made in an anonymous editorial.

ROFLOL…”We hope that, going forward on the many issues facing this community, a level of civility can be restored to the discussion.”

And WE hope a level of integrity in GF Trib can be restored through honest reporting of ALL facts.

    Guess it’s a standoff, eh?

Ya know, there is a time for civility. But when civil liberties are being trampled, when the Constitution is ignored, and when democracy itself is under attack, I say to HELL with civility. That is the time for outrage! And come on here, folks. Take a look at the history of our country for crying out loud. We didn’t inherit our democracy from pantywaistes for God’s sake! They fought, they argued, they DUELED! And I agree with the Fib on one point. “Afford them the respect they deserve”. Her Hahna Primadonna gets the respect she deserves. ‘OFFICER, REMOVE THAT MAN! (when Stuart Lewin used the word “doublespeak”. Donna is not interested in “olive branches”. So be it. Democracy will be kinda noisy for a while…………….just like it’s always been! And I’ve got no problem with that. Like they say, politics ain’t beanbag. And lest we forget, the real reason for democracy is to protect the powerless from the powerful. SME has all the resources, all we have is democracy. And we’ll use it. (See Mr. Kantorowizc’s wonderful guest ed in the Fib today)

Since when does the boss have to be civil with an insubordinate abusive employee? Last I looked our Constitution said “We the People,” not “We the Serfs”

Respect is a commodity one earns, it’s not crowned by title or position in our nation. Stebbins lowered the standard to an all time low and she alone is the culprit. All we are seeing is the natural reaction to her very disturbing nature.

Show me one politician in this country that as given the electorate the cold shoulder this woman has. She is a disgrace and an embarrassment. She is getting her just reward.

    Yin and Yang

Well there you have it. I write a post about civility, integrity and hypicrosy, and two out of three commenters make it about the power plant and Dona.

Firefly, here’s the deal. Why should donna and donna alone decide what the future of Great Falls is to look like? This plant deal is HUGE, and it is horrificly destructive. Yet we have had not even ONE public meeting on this proposal. Whassupwiththat? Of course people are going to be angry. Of course they’re going to be uncivil. We have been taught from youth that democracy is participatory. And yet we are denied our basic rights. Now, are we simply to be quite in the name of being “civil”? Civil implies civics! Remember that course in high school? Or do they even teach it any more. But my civics training taught me that it is NOT the decision of the mayor alone on this. The public must be heard. If the public gets a little rowdy, it’s because they’ve been silenced. The future is NOT her hahna primadonna’s alone! We fought a “civil” war about things that needed to be resolved. And that’s about as uncivil and you can get. If people aren’t allowed to even talk, what other outcome is there than incivility? Donna and lotten are responsible for the atmosphere that THEY alone have created. No one forced them to deny democracy. I don’t feel sorry for them. The Fib said that they must have “thick skin” to take it. But a thick skin and a thick head is a recipe for disaster. And donna thinking that she has a mandate is abou as thickheaded as it gets!

Larry, how can you reasonably say we haven’t had a public meeting on this? There have been meetings galore, by my account.

Whether or not the politicos take the ‘advice’ of the citizens does not affect the public nature of the meeting. I guess I just don’t follow you.

  7. I kept looking for the name(s) of the Tribune editor(s) who signed the piece that criticized the “anonymous blogosphere.” Am I missing it?

Larry, here’s the deal. I see you as an intelligent, involved individual who cares about the community. However, your message is distorted by your style of delivery, and you make factual mistakes that take away from the truth of some of your remarks. In effect, you destroy any positive influence you could have by the negative nature of your attacks. If you do not see that, I am not going to waste my time debating it with you.
It is not Dona and Dona alone deciding anything, and you do an injustice to everyone who writes and comments here, who attends public meetings, who votes or runs for public office, by saying that.
You yourself are a prime example of a person who appears to believe your message is the most important one, and the only correct one.
I understand what you say. (sometimes)
I do not believe your opinion trumps mine, or GeeGuys, or the guy down at the barber shop. Yelling, and lecturing me about civics, which I am fully capable of defining, will not make me change my mind.

  9. Larry K.EcoRangers! says:

No, Gee Guy, sorry to disagree, but I am talking about an actual public meeting regarding the coal plant, NOT the three minutes alloted at the end of the city commission meetings. Now, SME held ONE public informational meeting to gather public comment on some aspect of the plant, and that turned into a public forum. I know, I attended, and I was the very first speaker. And there were well over one hundred speakers. It was evenly divided between those for and against the plant. The only difference being that everyone FOR the plant belonged to an electrical co-op brought in from around the state. Every who was AGAINST the plant was local, either GF or the surrounding areas. And it was a wonderful meeting. I stayed until about eleven o’clock, and then I had to leave. But it was still going on. The testimony was enthralling. But again, if you know of an actual city sponsored meeting to discuss the plant, I’d sure like to know when it was. There has never been one. Again, the three minutes sessions after the commission meetings are NOT a public hearing on the plant. Enlighten me.

  10. Larry K.EcoRangers! says:

Firefly, sorry. I was not intending to lecture. My only point is that taken in its entirety, the city council, with donna as its head, has made a mockery of democracy. That’s all I’m saying. For you see, I most definitely do take our Constitutional rights seriously. And now that donna has won with a forty percent vote, and STILL thinks she has a mandate for the plant, I think that’s ludicrous. But I’m not too worried. This thing is just getting started. When you see farmers angry like Mr. Kantorowizc, you’ll see coalitions building to stop this thing that were never even imagined before. And those will carry a whole lotta weight. You see, I’ve been following politics a long time, and maybe I’ve seen more of the nasty tricks than you have. I have very little patience with them any more, and I express it. Hell, donna is even older than I am. She should know better. But my “lecture” was not designed for you. Sorry that you took it that way. It was just an opinion.
