The Rough Draft of the First Draft of History

Souter Done?

It looks like Souter might be done.

I hope the GOP can resist the temptation to try to qualify him on issues like the Dems did Roberts and Alito.

Gregg: “I hope the GOP can resist the temptation to try to qualify him on issues like the Dems did Roberts and Alito.”

    What do you mean?

  2. Big Swede says:

Besides being a non white male, Barry’s replacement must have these qualifications.

    Anti marriage
    Anti life
    Anti speech
    Anti gun & military
    Anti family
    Anti American
Anti paying her taxes, in full, on time

    Swede, prove it.

Rob, I don’t think that Gregg’s point was unclear. He was alluding to the idea that one must have the ‘proper’ stance on issues to be confirmed to the SCOTUS by the Senate. I admit that it was a weak barb, but vastly weaker was your pretense at misunderstanding it.

  4. Big Swede says:

I guess we’ll have to wait for the pick to see if she fits the mold.

Actually I was pushing for Ward Churchill. He’s anti everything, a scholar, a Native American, and when he wears his hair down in a black robe he resembles a transvestite.

  5. Gregg Smith says:

I really didn’t intend it as a “barb.” The Roberts and Alito confirmations really stood out in my mind as times when Senators made overt reference to positions rather than competence as qualification for the Justice. Am I saying that it was the first time it ever happened? No way. But it seemed more out in the open.

I hope the GOP focuses on jurisprudential competence.
