The Rough Draft of the First Draft of History

ECP Inquiry

Below I noted that John Lawton was apparently paid by SME while acting as a trustee for the cooperative (and while acting as City Manager of the City of Great Falls).

I wondered aloud whether anyone at the City would be concerned about this.

One person is. I learned today that John Gilbert, former City Commissioner and current member of the Electric City Power Board of Directors, is actually inquiring whether these sums were recieved by Mr. Lawton and whether they were accounted for to the City of Great Falls.

We are fortunate to have someone paying attention in addition to Mary Jolley.

When I learn more, you will learn more.

    God bless Mr. Gilbert.
I also hope Mr. Gilbert will question the Commissioners (other ones) about how the city invested in a coal plant and we have no say as to how that money gets moved from Southern to SME to build a gas plant with no action taken by the governing body of the city of Great Falls.

The commission’s public votes over the years were to put money towards a coal plant and there were no clauses that said ,” or whatever Mr. Tim thinks best.”

I believe it has been Mr. Gilbert’s targeted questions that has finally caused our city manager to move the ball on ECP and ask for a study that will hopefully show the commissioners the way out of this SME/ECP fiasco. It will be interesting to see how that one unfolds. Thanks Mr. Gilbert, your good reputation is well deserved…….
