The Rough Draft of the First Draft of History

Wordpress

The jury is, frankly, still out on Wordpress. I have played around with it a little bit, but I am not certain I like it better than blogger.

The main reason I am considering switching, though, is the horrendous formatting that comes with block quotes and photos.

For example, in Blogger, if I block quote something like this, it then changes the entire formatting for the whole post. And, unfortunately, it doesn’t even change it in a uniform matter.

This, however, seems to avoid that problem. So, either let me know what you think in the comments here, or back at the old site.

Thanks for reading!

Make the switch to WordPress. I think you won’t regret it. And the layout’s cool!

Heh…you know that I’m partial to this version! And good job on switching the template — it’s one of my favorites, in fact.

    Good job!

  3. I like the layout. And the control over your own words.

I have always been a bit skeptical of entrusting a company (Google) with which I have no real financial relationship with ’supervision’ over my blog. However, I have not wanted to spend the time (or money) to do anything different.

The wordpress blogs I have seen have many more features than blogger’s one-size fits all approach.

So, how did you make the switch? Can you import all of your old posts and comments over to the new site?

Larger margins or something to fill the borders would be nice. I have a tough time keeping my place when on screen reading full screen width text.

If you get more flexibility like Dave uses, I think it would be well worth the learning effort. The Google log-in sucks!!

I like Wordpress a lot better, and I like paying for my own hosting as well. You just have so much more flexibility. I encourage you to make the switch. Plus, I like to

    leave quotes in my comments

which Blogger doesn’t support. Oh, and Aaron, importing is as easy as a mouse click. I like the template as well GeeGuy; I used VeryPlainTxt for quite a while before I got the itch to move the furniture around at my place. That’s another beautiful thing about paying for hosting, you can tweak the html on your template for a truely unique experience.

…and it works better in Firefox.

If it works better with Firefox that will be fine with my needs. Sometimes the other site would freeze up firefox and I would have to go to safari to download pdf to control printing. Such is the life of a Mac user!
Any way Gregg so far, so good and we’ll stick with you where ever you go. Thanks again, Bill

If it works better for you then use it. It’s your blog…..

Congrats on the move; I think you’ll like it once you get settled.

Also, it shouldn’t be too hard to import your old blogspot posts into wordpress. I think there are scripts that do it for you – maybe even built into WP.

Is it possible to have the right fram on the homepage listed on all post pages?

  11. TMM says:

BTW, another reason I really like your new spot is that I can subscribe to your comments rss feed as well. Thank you thank you.

  12. PL says:

I like this site because it numbers the comments in a thread. Makes things easier to find and remember where they are in a thread.

The “very plaintxt theme by scott” with photos made viewing much faster.

    Nice move.

  13. I like it. I almost went with this one myself.

Somebody please help me with finding the RSS link for the main page where the actual articles are. I see the RSS links to the comments but can’t find one for the main page.

Not me, I have no idea what you are talking about!
