Outside the Box
Is legal immigration a potential antidote to our long-term economic troubles? One suggests it might be so:
Shekhar Gupta, the editor of the Indian Express newspaper, told Friedman, “All you need to do is grant visas to 2 million Indians, Chinese and Koreans. We will buy up all the subprime homes. We will work 18 hours a day to pay for them. We will immediately improve your savings rate – no Indian bank today has more than 2% nonperforming loans because not paying your mortgage is considered shameful here. And we will start new companies to create our own jobs and jobs for more Americans.”
But would they want to?

Next on the list for Americans: Microloans.
chicken shit gregg smith
you run an article by some racist wog saying white people are lazy and then you block our comments refuting that? you coward.
And you respond anonymously.
I don’t exactly read the comments as “white people are lazy.” You read that.
Gupta’s plan won’t work here. It smacks of capitalism and we can’t have any of that.
On another note: Gregg, I understand why you left “outside reader’s” comment up. His stupidity is evident and reviled by all rational people, but perhaps his comments are ready to come down. Leaving them up is akin to reality tv where skateboarders wreck their privates trying to skate down bannisters. Amusing for three seconds, then just stupid.
Mr. Gupta has a very interesting proposition…I have only met a few people from India but they all had advanced degrees, one fellow had 3 Masters including an MBA and one in engineering. I have never seen anyone from India panhandling or living at the Mission.
