The Rough Draft of the First Draft of History

Montana Secretary of State

Have any of you seen Linda McCulloch’s ad for Secretary of State? I can’t stand that ad.

There are plenty of reasons not to vote for McCulloch, primarily because Brad Johnson has done a fine job with what is essentially a ministerial, apolitical position. I know, because we deal with the Secretary of State quite a bit, and the office runs well. So, other than the fact that McCulloch is an old time Democrat pol who needs a place to land until something better comes along, why vote for her?

Not because of that ad. I cannot stand that ad. Even if I were going to vote for her, that ad puts her in the worst possible light. Ugh. Ms. McCulloch, I hope you didn’t pay someone to choreograph that for you.

She is a bit too close to the camera for comfort.

Every time I see that ad I think of that line from “Tootsie” about how far back the camera should be and the answer is, “Cleveland”. I really don’t need to see her nose hairs!

More importantly, she doesn’t have a clue about what the job is or how the office is currently run. When you talk to people who work at OPI, none of them are very impressed with the job she’s done over there. The SOS office has done some great things to be more responsive to the needs of the various constituencies it serves. Brad Johnson deserves another four years!
